hey this is not an idea i will take on any time soon but wouldn't it be cool if..... you could get a laser burner down to the size of an aixiz module. I know that coin cell batteries cant get any way near 420Ma and are low voltage. but why not go lipo, look here http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4888 13*16*4 mm 3.7V battery designed to push 720Ma constant with bursts up to 1.2 amps. a couply of these could even power a bluray. admittedly they are only 60mah but that is roughly 8 mins at 420ma (red burner open can) and just under 2 hours for blue ray, which aint too shabby- especialy when with a bit of effort you could make a laser about the size of a (squarified) aa battery. these can be charged using a hacked pico x helicopter

some one has to be skilled enough to make a driver no bigger than 20*14mm that can run a burner diode. smd componants it must be possible. then you can have the laser the size of a AA. costs to my recconing:

laser module 4$
Batteries and P+P 8$
driver and tactile switch 7$
Hand held helicopter(for charger) 18$
laser diode 20$ish
AA battery holder (case) .5$

total ------ 57.5$  or in real money 27£

any one upfor a good chalange.

its possible, if you can find a low dropout regulator, with a REALLY low sense voltage, less than 0.2V
even then, a battery that small would only last about 30 secconds
or you could drive it from a resistor, but it wouldn't burn as well.

by my reconing it should last 8 mins at 420ma so praticaly more like 6minutes which aint bad

if it's possible, do it. the huge problems will be, obviously, batteries... i think u can fit a diode in there, but u wouldnt want the smallest portable laser to run out of batts every time u press the button :P

well that will be the price you pay for a tiny laser. the same site i linked to has 100mah single cells aswell but they are twice as long. well once you make the charger from a pico z helicopter you can charge it quickly when ever you want - becuase the picoz charges from the controler, re package it to make it realy small, have it in the bottom of your bag - hey presto a pionter that can do 5 minute strings of burning and charge whilst it is stored ... and it is the size of 1 aa battery. you could even disguise the charger as a storage box for the laser with a little hidden plug.

My first laser only used a 230mAh hobby grade Li-Po (FullRiver, from a RC helicopter), which provided less than an hour of play time. Still, this was usually enough for an entire weekend.

If you use the AMC7135 you could probably fit it in there, and you wouldn't need to make a circuit. But you would have to insulate the battery from the module and run the minus up with a wire. Shouldn't be a problem, since you would actually be left with some extra space.

I also love making my lasers as small as possible. But using an AixiZ module as a host.. I did think of it once (only for the aixiz 5mW red tho), but didn't really consider it. I can live with a slightly larger one as well.

I'm currently making one out of a DX Charge2Go clone, and it will run from a single AA Ni-MH cell. The size is 71mm long and 21mm wide. Similiar to Chimo's Charge2Go powered Blue Ray, but with a burner diode.

Wait, this is the PicooZ replacement battery...

I have this heli, and i have taken several appart for finetuning and getting rid of low freq. PWM vibrations, so i know a battery that size wouldn't fit into an AixiZ module..
