True, a 200mw red will be a good intro to burning, but I think its worth mentioning that a green laser produces much more brilliant light (even if it doesn't burn). My LEDshoppe 50mw green greatly outdazzles my o-like 200mw red. Just a tidbit.Welcome to the forum.
A good laser to start out with is the O-like Dilda ($45) 650nm (red) 200 mW.
This is the cheapest way to get "introduced' to burning lasers.
From there, you can work your way up to different colors and higher powers.
You have an advantage, living in Canada.
No laws limiting the power you can import.
In the US, it's <5mW, which would not burn anything.:cryyy:
Of course, they're ways around this, but you always risk your laser being confiscated by customs.:yabbmad:
