Sun + Magnifying Glass = ?mw

wheres the cheapest place for a lens that ships to canada that is at least 40"by 40"

i built a fresnel lens magnifying glass today, i cut out a 7 inch diameter circle and i taped a handle to a metal ring and then i glued the lens to the ring and viola, i had a burner that can ignite matches in less than 2 seconds, oh and by the way, that is the opposite end of course! i will post some picture of it in the multimedia section later! the thread will be called "big burner"

There's a lot of energy in sunlight. Around 1000 watts per square meter on a bright day.

Years ago Edmund scientific sold a a giant fresnel lens, over a couple feet square. It was sold as 'melting asphalt in seconds'. Unfortunately my parents banned the idea. :(

I did find this one, 11" square. That's still about 78 watts of power (78,000 mW).

I'll have to dig out my old 42" RPTV fresnel and see what I can make it do ;D

I'll get some videos if I can find a suitable filter for in front of my digital camera..I don't want to mess up the sensor in it LOL. I probably will wear 2 pair of sunglasses to help protect my eyes in the process....
