Suggestion needed P/S for 60,000mW laser..

I think if past experiance has taught me anything, it would be that I cant possibly get bored of something so damn dangerous. Even though I find myself at a level of comfort, this one has my socks going loose :-[

I suppose that after the initial anxiety has passed this will change. But for now the thought of serious injury will keep me straight and narrow.

Im going to try and squeeze in a power up test tonight, nothing spectacular, just have to test if it works okay still. I have to get back to the seller ASAP, and let them know if ill be needing a replacement.

I have a bada$$ lens on my shelf for this one, its from a drive-in movie theatre projector. It measures approx 10in long x 6 1/2 - 7in in diameter with the bonus of a three element glass setup. I was thinking this might be a bit big, but I think it will make for a nice fat beam. Theres just something about 60W+ beamshots that are getting me exited ::)

Here are the pics. The only slight concern im having is the minor scratches which resulted from the lens bouncing around for god knows how long. I used 99% alcohol and a clean strip of paper to remove any contaminants from the internal lens, and swabbed the outter. They look clean enough, and hope this wont cause any problems. I have to finish the cooling system, and get this thing going.

Im actually considering using this for cutting all of my optics to size and shape. It would be much easier to use this rather than a traditional cutter. And would get me the correct shape with less cracks and no scratches from contact with my primative metal cutter 8-)

Anybody have an idea if my OD-4 goggles are any defence against reflections at this power?  I would like as much barrier in between the light and my eyes. :-/

OD4 at 808nm should reduce the power to ... 6mW  ::)[/quote]

That is most reassuring :) 6mW is a walk in the park, I think im going to add a small buzzer for power on indication just in case.
Though I dont think I will soon forget the insane consequence of any incidence with this. I plan on giving it its very own table top until I can figure out what to do with it.

Wait... isn't OD4 0.01%? If so, that is 600mW! :o :o :o :o
OD6 would be 6mW... Right? :-?

wannaburn - Nice Pics !!! :) I really like the first one, showing the emitter, the fast axis lens, and the slow axis collimating lens, up nice and close. Give it 10 - 12 A on the ammeter, and it should lightly smoke black plastic. Nice for a first test and getting to know the diode and setup. I ran into one lens that didn't like 808nm IR, it simply exploded. Another reason for goggles !!! I hope that your big lens works out, test at low power (20A) using a videocam to confirm focus. You'll enjoy this beast. It can be difficult to focus this into a diistance beam, as it is bar-line and requires more slow axis collimation.

Nice pics indeed!!! Your macro photography just continues to amaze! Can't wait to see this burner roasting.
