Sub 10 Watt mystery laser. Please help identify/evaluate/test.

I'm pretty sure that

A. It is a 445nm
B. It is >2 watts <10 watts
C. Focused down it zaps rust off of metal.

I am not a novice, I have been using class IV Lasers for several years.

What information are you trying to get? The actual power of the laser? I don't understand what you're asking. You need to provide some more details.
 
I suppose you didn't just randomly found that laying at the side of the road, so any info where it came from?
 
I would like to know some good ways to test power without having to spend $. (Materials a laser of X Watts should vaporize, ignite, cut, melt etc)

I am open to ideas on tests, experiments, projects, tasks for this laser that someone wants photo/video of.

I'd like a few guesses on what the exact diode may be.

I am interested in modifications that would boost power.

Source was from China cost was under $110


IMHO due to it's "Lightsaber" look, feel and quality from a prop/cosplay/collection/conversation piece standpoint I think it is a good price without any function as a laser.

Yep that's almost definitely an M140 diode. The size of the diode is right and it's pretty much always the diode they put in that particular generic host. Power should be right around 2 watts. :beer:

Thanks much, that also tells me that my other laser is likely a 1 watt unit.

What should I know about the M140, can you link to another thread about it?

Is there anything I should know about my other laser?

Your other laser seems to be a "Thor" unit. Usually a trustworthy laser, it seems to have a glass lens (as opposed to acrylic which will melt after long-term usage.)

I have had that laser for a year now, it has been a great unit that sees regular (almost daily) use.

I don't see an option for 26650 batteries at any wattage for that unit.

Correct, that means they won't ship the batteries with the laser, you have to buy them yourself. This is good because importing batteries into the US (by air) is illegal and may get your laser seized. :beer:

$205.05 as a full kit with a proper set of safety glasses.

I've seen what looks like the same kit for $50 on ebay lately.

As to the Batteries for the 2W laser I assume when charged in the same charger they end up with the same voltage and that mAh is the only difference?

Yep. Pretty much all li-ion batteries have the same voltage. :)

Thanks for the help. I'm glad this seems to be a more level headed forum. I suppose the learning curve for high power lasers is pretty high.
