Strange shape of new Thor M2 blue laser and strange "UV" effect?

Dear friends,
I received a new Thor M2 laser a few days ago (had to wait to buy and receive the batteries and charger which were not included).

Although I find the laser quite "cool", I am not able to focus the beam into a tight circular spot.

When I focus it onto the room's wall, at its smallest the shape it projects is like a small thin bar, not a circle.

Is this normal? Can I do anything to correct this?

I'd also like to ask about a weird (but cool) effect: when I shine it on the room's wall and look through the green lenses of the glasses I bought with it, I can see fingerprints, hand smudges I guess from the skin oils which kind of glow like they were under an UV light. How does this happen?

Thank you very much.

That shape is normal, nothing you can do to fix it without adding optics onto the end of the laser. Would require additional mounting hardware, adjustment and at least two optics. Even then, you'd have a square beam instead of a rectangular beam.

445nm is close enough to UV to cause similar fluorescence effects as UV. You can only see it with the goggles because they are blocking out the much brighter blue light.

The shape is normal for the high power blue diodes. You should have come here first if it bothers you.

But now that you're here you should introduce yourself in the 'Welcome' section.

I just saw your intro post and am glad you did that. As has already been stated here your laser is acting normally and there is little you can do to change that. Enjoy your stay here.
