spartan 1w vs arctic s3 beam divergence

I just measured my spartan at 30 feet and got 2.9mrad. Short distance, imprecise measurements, ymmv.

What I can say for sure is that I'm NOT impressed. The fanboys will talk about build quality and which burns better, who's got more power, etc. The reality is that the spartan isn't impressive. Sure it's bright and burns stuff. The beam also comes out of mine at a very obvious angle. Looks like the diode isn't seated right. There's no point along the beam where the beam appears to be anywhere near focused. It honestly looks to me like they just slapped a lens on and turned it until they could see a beam in the sky and then threw that into the host.

Who knows. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from a diode laser?

That picture of yours really looks out of focus. That could be fixed, if you can access the optics. I'm not sure if it is possible with spartan.

Anyway .. what DID you expect ?

Maybe some form of quality control & reliability. Mine didn't even work when I first got it, I had to hook the battery spring with something and stretch it out so that it would make contact with the batteries. The beam used to be like a laser pointer, except it was a small thin line. Now it's a large smudge.

Finally got my Spartan 1w. Measured divergence is obout 2.16mrad. (3.5mm at apperture, 10mm at 3m). But it's big anyway in comparison with my old green 200mW laser (1.4mRad). Are there any possibilities to reduce the divergence? Maybe there are some adjustments inside.

My Arctic is 37.5mm at 60 feet, so that works out to ~1.959mRad.

Is the spartan really better than the s3 like all these videos and site say?The s3 looks a lot cooler and is more expensive, but does that mean anything?(arctic not krypton)

Try Rifle from Lazerer. Wicked Lasers and Arctic have very bad sound around here. So does graphical double posting.
