Sony DVD laser pointer

you need a driver to power the diode, and a host to put it in (usually flashlights), along with some batteries.

The [link=http://www.dorcydirect.com/p-15-41-4262-45-lumens-1-watt-led-flashlight-with-cr123-battery.aspx]Dorcy Jr flashlight[/link] is pretty good I think as it already has a driver in it, all you need is a 5 ohm resistor (available at electronics stores, or radio shack if you take two 10 ohm resistors in parallel = 5 ohm) and a soldering iron (also at radioshack / electronics store) and a bit of elbow grease.

check out [link=http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1120132/diy_dorcy_burning_red_laser/] this video at http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1120132/diy_dorcy_burning_red_laser/[/link] for more detailed instructions. it was made by Kenom.

I am trying to build a laser pointer using a Sony Diode Pre-Installed In Aixiz Module.

I dont know what else i need to build or what type of case to put it in.

It DOES require some reading on your part, I assure you....if you don't read up on it, and understand what it is that you are doing - it will only lead to an expensive disappointment in the end. For starters - read up on some threads and tutorials in the safety section, as well as ones here, for building a Dorcy "jr" laser....In my opinion, that is by far the easiest to build out of the myriad of different hosts available.

Forget the Dorcy Jr. driver. I'm not the only one to say this. I'm just a laser student on this forum but a few of the experts among us have told me this driver is just too quirky and that's good enough for me. I've gone through 5 diodes with this sucker. $100.00 down the proverbial drain. Perhaps not all of their drivers are stable.
I love the Dorcy Jr. design so I will stay with that as a host but will scrap the driver and replace it (probably) with DrLava's Flexdriver.

A most excellent decision.

I'm glad you agree Dave. What LD do you suggest? Most I talk to now say long open can for this project. Agree? Thanks!

Thats correct, the LD from an LG 22x can reliably output 250 mW of power, driven @ 420mA.
Using more power, it has been run up to 290 mW or so, using a heat sink & a meredith glass module.

Daves probably the only one brave enough to turn the heat up to maximum, 480mA will drive that
puppy to output 330 mW!
