Some help with fixing my power meter

And once again...
You will need an accurate Calibration source AND
the Calibration proceedure for the X4.

BTW... even if you get a part number off the old
TEC it will not guarantee the new same Part # TEC,
Thermal Epoxy/thickness, Heatsink and new coating
combination will still be in calibration without testing
the results against an accurate calibration source.

I'd get another LPM and use your X4 PCB for another
project as you suggested earlier if you really can't
get a hold of the sellers.

IIRC.. MarioMaster sold Radiant to them... He should
have a way to contact them.

Looking at the Laserbee meters, the LaserBee AX meter seems to have an identical sensor that came with my X4, I'm wondering if its a standard part.

Seeing as Jerry makes them himself, I doubt it. :rolleyes: It's that or his sensors were being used on the X4 without anyone knowing, himself included.
 
They look identical is all Im saying. Same heatsink, same 15 mm TEC, even has the exact same mini jack connector.

Yeah, but diodes have a standardized packaging. As far as I'm aware, LaserBee TEC sensors are custom made for LaserBee meters, so its odd that another LPM would have an exact copy of the design.

Or they both used standardized parts to build their sensors? Those heatsinks are common/fairly standard (I've got a bunch of them for projects), 3.5mm jacks are standard and good at dealing with many cycles. I imagine the TECs are a standard size too. After that there's only so much you can change in how you put it all together and I'd imagine there's a certain way that just works best.

As I said, AFAIK, Jerry builds these sensor himself and there's been no indication that he's sent any out to be used with the X4. Chances are it's a coincidence/happens to be a good design.

Regardless, I'm thinking this is a lost cause. Unless the sensors are identical in every way then the calibration is going to be off, and I don't have a calibrated laser source to check against, and apparently the calibration data on the X4 is stored in the firmware, and I don't really have the means to access or modify it.

As far as its life as a LPM, the Radiant is dead. If I can use its brain chip and LCD for something else then I can re purpose it. If not, I'll probably see what happens when I hit it with every laser I own at once. For science.

I can assure you...they are not the same...

The only TECs that are custom made for us
are the 8mm X 8mm fast response time TECs
used in our Higher end LaserBee products.

You are correct...
The 15mm X 15mm TECs we use today are ones that we
chose for their faster response times compared to others
we tested.
When we went to the 15mm X 15mm TECs we purchased
about 35 different TECs from 4 different manufactures and
tested each one..

We tested the 100% response time with a 1000mW Laser
and found the ones we use today to be ~27 to 36 seconds.
The X4 we purchased had a 100% response time of about
60 to 70 seconds under the same test condotions.
Even the original Radiant Alpha TECs were a bit better than
the X4. They had a 100% response time of 50-60 seconds..
again under the same test conditions.

I didnt mean the TECs themselves were custom, just that the whole assembly with heatsink and cable was assembled by you. I was just making the observation that they look identical. Anyway though, I will probably end up buying a LaserBee meter when I can afford one. Best to get one from someone who is actually around and active on the forum :beer:

the Shop to do with the LaserBee LPM products.

I'll tell you what I'll do... When and only when you
are ready.. send your defective/dead X4 complete
to us and I'll give you $50.00 off any LaserBee LPM
you may choose to purchase.

I'll want the want the entire LPM electronics and
the Thermopile head and all the parts that broke
off. You can put the Thermopile and it's knocked
off parts in a Zip lock bag until you are ready...
The LPM electronic PCB and case (if you have a
case) can also be put into a separate bag.
