Some sources imply that using connectors can be risky due to coming loose, charging the caps on the driver and eventually blowing the laser diode.

Should I stay away from Deans Micro connectors or are they 'safe"?

Anybody have an opinion?

I've never used the micro Deans, but the regulars size Deans had been the gold standard in RC for years. I've never heard of connector failure other than exceeding its ratings, or not seating it properly
But if the connector won't be disconnected/connected much maybe a dab of hot glue will ensure it doesn't separate.
JST also makes some 2 pin connectors that have been widely used in RC.

There's a few different types of 2 pin available, but the ones I'm referring to are these:
Typically I've only seen them in red, but they spec a 3a rating. Plenty of generics are available on Amazon although many don't mention the current rating. You can get them pig-tailed or DIY.
