A note for any future reference needs:
laser83 very promptly got the BDR-205 I purchased from him shipped off and I've just received it today. I have not had an opportunity to remove the diode and install it in a host but the Pioneer drive appears brand new and unopened in its plastic wrapping in the box it was sent in exactly as it was described.
