To Monitors

Not that I really needed it, but I just picked up a 4th 27" monitor.

It will most likely replace one of the two monitors I use at home, and one of those will end up in the office replacing a 19" model.

Anyone else find themselves on a constant quest/obsession to perfect things?

I definitely have an obsession and itch to perfect project. In fact most of my lasers that died have died from attempted transplants and modification.
But in other aspects of life, I always try to "cut once, measure twice."

I have an obsession for old things. The "I want the newest tech" doesnt really appeal to me. I like turning old tech into new tech. I love the look and the fact I'm the only one who owns one.

I really enjoy this too. Retro casings seem to add class.
As far as being the only one who owns one, I think that's why some of my project box builds are my favorite. Building a popular kit is all well and good but I really am satisfied by getting to add extras and follow my own layout to build one.
One mini project I took on this summer was turning an old film video recorder into an LED desk light. I thought it came out well.

TJ, what kind of stuff do you bring into the new age of technology? Like, what's your favorite project you've completed?

Right now I'm retrofitting an old radio into an MP3 player. I gutted it, and am adding a Klipsch sub woofer, and speakers. I also am taking an old wooden, jointed, whiskey crate, and turning into a TEC cooler, for cold drinks ect.

Thats all you get. I try to keep my designs private so I dont get them ripped off.

Those seem pretty cool. I totally respect the privacy of ideas. I know exactly what you mean.
I live around the Greater Portland area. My mother's in Cumberland and my father's in Cape Elizabeth. Fort Williams is just a couple hundred feet away from me.
What brings you to Maine this time of year?

I think the lobster roll shack we go to is in Cape Elisabeth. Has 2 lighthouse next to it.

We go to Maine just about every month, sometimes twice. We start in Kittery and drive up US1 to Arundel looking through the antique shops, junk, and thrift stores. Then we go out to dinner. Sometimes we spend the weekend. Its a nice little get away thats around an hour away from us.

Pretty sweet getaway. Yeah there are some pretty good seafood shacks around here. Portland Headlight is in Fort Williams. And that's the more known lighthouse here. So basically traffic sucks since everyone wants to see it. But hey I'm glad to be living where I do.
But hey man, best of luck finding things on your trip. I'd recommend Mardens and if you can make it up to Brunswick ever, they have a big flea market in a place calls Fort Andross every weekend. Can't go wrong there.

So it turns out in my haste I screwed up a little.

The new monitor doesn't have a DVI input, only VGA and HDMI.

To me that's really retarded.... so now i'm on the hunt for either a mini hdmi to hdmi cable, or dvi to hdmi cable or converter.

Side note... would one far of center, near edge, dead pixel cause you to return a monitor?

(I'm trying to decide whether I want to match up my home and work monitors, so I have HP's at home and Samsungs at work, or vice versa. The HP's are superior to the samsung I currently have, although the new one is LED so need to test out first prior to deciding.)

How many times have I done something like that...ive found a product I want/need , scrutinized it to within an inch of its life , ordered it...opened the box when it arrived , and it has that one little feature missing that renders it useless!

I have a 16 year old multimeter that is still my primary meter. It was made by Tandy/Micronta/ Radio shack back in the mid 90's and has never let me down. Tried Fluke's , AVO's nothng compares to this meter.

I've been looking at a 1930's multimeter at an indoor flea market we go to for a long time. It bigger than a brick, LOL. But its covered in baked enamel, so its not rusted. Obviously the inside parts are a little rough, but it could easily be refurbished to work new.

I see stuff all the time, but funds are low. Plus I have an epic project list.

I just grabbed this from ebay for cheap.

Its a 40's glass slide projector. I'm going to make this into some kind of laser projector. I'll strip the paint, and rust. Preserve the bellows, and paint it a black crinkle. Rewire it of course.

I'd love to grab this one. Its Steampunk meets Frankenstein, LOL

If I had the funds and the time , i'd like to turn one of them into a video projector for my living room!
