I am at a loss here. I don't have a drive (yet) to try things out... and not sure what I'd try if I did :lol:

I was expecting something TOTALLY different than what I found when I cracked that bugger open. I am at a loss here. Kind of laughing, kind of puzzled.

regular xboxes have regular dvd readers in them... so do xbox 360's... the violet lasers everyone's ranting about are found in the HD-DVD drive *addon* for the xbox 360... it's a standalone USB HD-DVD drive that plugs into an xbox 360. not the xbox 360 itself, and certainly not a regular xbox 1.

the weirdass diode is probably an infrared diode for reading CD's... the more normal looking one is probably the red diode for reading DVD's.

I'm not really an xbox expert, but I don't think they've ever made 360's with built in HD drives... I think the "elite" version came with HDMI cables so you can plug it into a high def TV... maybe that's what it means by HD... check if it has this logo on it... if it does, it contains a violet laser.
