Sure, but re-wrapping cells is nothing new. It's usually done to make fake brand batteries, or to use brand ones but seal the protection circuitry in them.

I'm not sure what market this serves, i'd rather just have the cell brand and capacity on there, accurately.

I fully agree with you Benm ,
in fact I posted that picture only for the aesthetic beauty of the 18650 battery ! obvious ,always choose batteries to the manufacturers, serious and RELIABLE.

They do look pretty cool. Problem with that is if you sell good quality cells with that design on them, you'd get chinese fakes if they gain any reputation.

This is what happened with things like ultrafire: now a known brand traditionally, but some good cells turned out under that brandname, and shortly after useless fakes started popping up. Apprently even having 'fire' in the name of a lithium battery does not stop that

On a practical end, are there products that offer transparent bodies? Otherwise how are you going to showcase them? Only when they are docked on the charger?

Also, its wise to have the chemistry/working voltage/capacity listed on the label. 18650 is by definition an ANSI standard for dimensions, it does not to any degree reflect the chemistry and therefore it is hazardous to the user to rely solely on the shape. Not all chemistry charge by the same algorithm. Certain lithiums, such as lithium thionyl chloride, are not rechargeable at all.

In fact , there is always the risk of "clone" by "third parties" without naming names and breeds.... Anyway, the Ultrafire is still a great brand , I myself use it for my 3 laser pointers, even if to say true I am fine with the Trustfire ...! anyway, you should always beware of what you buy considering always a lot of factors and always read to the bottom of the technical specifications issued by the seller ...!

The must-have of the range are Panasonic, Efest and Nitecore :drool:

Genuine ultrafire batteries are fine. The problem is just all the copies and fakes out there. If you buy them off ebay you might just as well get a tube filled with mostly sand and some tiny battery burried in there connected to the terminals.

In less obvious scams you'll get a dinky old re-wrapped cell that is just a few 100 mAh in capacity anymore. You could even get a real panasonic cell, just one that has been sitting in storage for over 10 years
