Shades For Blue And/Or Violet Lasers?

BlueFusion said:
hey, just realised I HAVE UV goggles... lol. my prescription glasses are UV sensitive so when you go outside they tint darker. doubt I'd trust it to work instantly though... :P
Blocking UV usually isn't too bad. You can pick up a $5 pair of lab goggles that block UV. Same with 10,600nm CO2 - its pretty easy to block that. In the visible range though, you end up paying for getting both decent VLT and OD

I agree with what pseudo said...

also, one word...

cataract.

Dont mess with UV, it isnt just the fact that its a laser...think about the wavelength also. Would you look at a UV fluorescent tube? I know i wouldnt.
I know i would! You need a pretty big and powerful UV tube before it would be dangerous. Or else people woudln't use it in their computers, in other mods, and even handlight's on rave party's and such.

Hi,

I'm going to build a blue-ray laser, And i've got some safety questions.

I know that the eye is way more sensetive to green lasers than to red lasers.
And that refelections on white walls from 100mW+ green lasers can hurt your eyes.

But what about violet lasers, how dagerous is the colour violet in comparison with red lasers.

Because i'm thinking to build a high powered ( 90mW ) xbox360 blue ray laser.
But if the colour violet is just as dagerous as green, i'll just make a lower power PS3 blue-ray laser.

So i'm talking about Refelecitions from white walls NOT direct hit in the eye.

Thanks, Yoeri

Eye sensitivity only addresses the relative brightness of the beam but has no bearing on the effects the light has on your retina. A 100mW blue ray will burn your retinas just as well as a 100mW 532nm DPSS. The 532nm will just look brighter to you.

you misunderstand... the eyes are more sensitive to 555nm than any other color, but that doesn't make 100mw act like 300mw, 100mw or red, green, and blue will all cause the same damage.

But is it "Safe" To look at the dot on a white wall standing 0,5 meters afways.
Does the reflection do any damage to your eyes?

Thanks, Yoeri

well... the sun can dmage your eyes from a reflection, so I would assume the same goes for a dot reflecting...

keep in mind, 5mw is still dangerous, any direct laser is bad, and as for reflecting... well, you never know when you might ACCIDENTLY reflectt a window from 100+ft away and hit yourself in the eye (it happens more than you think when you ALWAYS carry around a green laser and play with it at parties [smiley=cool.gif])

so, yea, 100mw, get goggles or just try to avoid looking at the dot, its hard I know.

Ok, Thanks for the fast reactions.

I think i'll build a PS3 Blue-ray laser. And maybe build the High Power 360 laser when i've got some goggles.

Thanks, Yoeri
