SFAW210 vs PHR-805t?

I can't speak for the 805t but I do have an 803T and a AW-210 build. The SFAW210 is a more powerful diode since it's from a 6x BR burner. I'm driving mine at 170ma and it's outputting 170mw. The PHR-803T is being driven at about 104ma and outputting 87mw. I know the 805T has a higher max power than the 803t. The 803T (and I assume the 805T would be too) were great for lower powered builds of ~100mw or less. The diodes from 6x and higher speed BR burners are great for high powered builds. Both are great diodes IMO depending on what kind of build you want. Lifetime is based on how hard you drive them. Both of mine are conservatively driven and should last a long time.

Well IMO it depends for several reasons. Here's some things you may want to consider.

The SFAW10 is slightly higher priced. If you have a high ranged budget, get the AW210. If you want a higher current run, go for the AW210. If not move for the PHR. Most diodes in a specified color have a lifetime power curve, meaning that proportionally running the diode at currents compared to the manufacturer's rating will decrease the lifespan of the diode (mW). Since the AW210 has a larger range than the PHR, it may be better to go for it, since its much more flexible ranged than the PHR.

On the other hand, if you're going for a low-power build or budget, the PHR may slightly be the better choice, since its nicely priced, especially on modwerx (10$, AND ITS THE BARE DIODE! with uncut pins too.), and has a nice runtime as well as decent power to a certain degree, usually its best to run at most 130mA, gives you a maximum of around 90-100mW. AFAIK, it'll run for around 500-1000 hours. Maybe less.

You may also consider how well you solder and hand skills, as the PHR is a lot easier to work with, since its only the bare diode, whereas the AW210 must be harvested carefully from a sled. Do be aware that sledded diodes have noticeably shorter pins.

Too long? Go for the AW210 if you have the money.

AFAIK, it'll run for around 500-1000 hours. Maybe less.

We push these diodes many times what they are rated for, so no one can say how long they will last.

IMO go for the PHR. You will not notice the small power difference between the two, so no use spending more.

I guess TJ is pretty much right. Unless you prefer power over budget, the PHR is a relatively reliable diode, its the bread and butter for new people, and is quite common.

There is only ~30mW difference between the 2 diodes. 30mWs will be no brighter or make a big difference in burning.

If you can get a whole SFAW210 sled then I'd go for that, because it also contains a decent red diode too that can be pushed ~200mW.

I have an AW210 sled, and an 803T sled on the way, these diodes are all 5.6mm cans, right? What is the difference between the 803t, and the 805t? I intend to search out the pinouts, next, but in case I don't find those, can anyone give me a hint?

The difference is about 20-30mW. And you can easily find the pin outs, and all the other info by looking around.

Will either of these have enough power to say, light a cigarette? I really want to integrate one into one of those Star Trek toy phazer pistols, and carry it as my lighter. If the cops should shake me down, they always ask: "do you have any weapons on you?". Then, I'll present them the phazer, and when they ask, I'll tell them "I need that to wipe out those stinking kingons that are hanging around Uranus (your anus), of course." That'll mess with their tiny minds, for sure. And it will make for a cool package for it, anyway.

Come on, that's funny as hell.

I dunno about lighting a cigarette. As I mentioned above my 210 is putting out 170mw which probably isn't enough. (NB: I don't smoke so I've never tried it but my gut feeling is no) Even if it was you'd be pointing the thing right at your face to use it which would be incredibly dumb and dangerous.

The problem with lighting a cigarette is that you have to point the laser at your face. At any power this is dangerous, and requires goggles.

my 400mw 445nm can easily light a cig. it's so good that sometimes it burns straight up the center lol.
