WOW!
i saw a 1.4kw laser array on ebay, but it got removed???

That was a 700W array that Ben bought from pntech retails for $80 and was trying to relist for a few hundred dollars. Apparently eBay said something about others shill bidding the auction so it got removed.

For those of you who are adventurous, you can pick up 60W+ diode bars off eBay for <$150 and try mounting them yourself, but we're not talking about a set up array, just the miniscule chip with is a pain in the ass x 10 to mount. If you can though, there's no reason why you couldn't mount up an array of those arrays (thats what the 700W was like), and create one insanely powerful unit. :o Perhaps CO2 would be a better alternative though if you just want power to burn.

yeah I've seen plenty diode bars/arrays. they are a pain in the ass x 1000 to solder, you need indium solder, it's super hard to use and very $$$ plus the stuff you are soldering is microscopic. you have to hotplate everything and one oops and the whole thing is toast.

these big pre mounted arrays and stuff already on a block are easier to work on, but there's usually a reason they are so cheap and available, they are usually out of spec units or there's something wrong like a line missing or something. without a beam ananlyzer you'd never know. they'd be good for buying some of the huge crytals that show up on ebay every now and then, provided you have the time and expertise to do the alignment and make a cavity and setup the optics right.

$80 for a 700W array? Uhh... ok, you got my eyes and ears open... How do I power this thing? I suppose the driver is where the ass beating comes in? ;D

You would not focus or collimate it. You just can't :(. Its not a single beam, but many many many beams, each very highly diverging, and in a matrix as opposed to a basic array.

Power... you would need low voltage and a whole hell of a lot of amps - more power than you can get out of a regular 15A breaker even if your PSU was 100% efficient

like, 12v, 250A? Like, car starter type of power??? AS A FRICKIN LASER!!!???
oh, btw, pseudo, u hav any hi power IR lasers left? PM sent.

Yep, in terms of power consumption that figure is probably not too far off.

I got your PM and responded to it earlier. Please let me know if you didn't get the response.
