Sanwu pocket 505nm

These Sharp laser diodes have become ubiquitous and quite inexpensive. I got one that measured only 502nm back when they were first being developed with a neutral case pin. Now, they are all very close to 505nm and the case is positive. I still have a couple in my stock that are below 505nm. I hate the case being positive, though. It makes building a good handheld more difficult.

I haven't quite got into laser building yet, but I see why it would be more difficult. What is the 505nm color like, compared to 520nm? Would the color difference be seen on camera as well?

I agree Ultra, got 70-80 dollars (depending on the lens you buy) doesn't sound like a bad price at all. Half tempted to make the plung myself. If you do please make a post as I will likewise. :)

There is a fair color difference, though to me 502nm is still 100% green.

Some cameras do see it, others don't. My galaxy S8 can tell just about any color difference:

520 vs 502 vs 488 vs 485 vs 480

Also, sharp is developing 80mW case neutral versions of this diode (which is 35/case +)

If you can hold out for a case neutral 505nm diode, that would be the way to go. The only drivers I've used to set up the case positive diodes are the Blitz Linear Drivers from Survival Lasers. The pot on them is tiny and difficult to adjust. I have built three using this driver and all the drivers were the same. It can be done, just a huge PITA to do it.

Just made the purchase last night, already placed a chair outside by my mailbox and waiting. :pop:

Brilliant, thank you very much for the comparison, that is very helpful indeed.

PITA

Just ordered a module from DTR with a sharp 505 diode. Can't wait for it to arrive so I can build it into a 501B. I really want to see the color in person. :D

Its a great feeling to receive a laser with the color you never seen before imo, good luck with your build. :D

I don't know if they are the same diodes, but DTR had the SB147EB91 or SB147EC91 which were closer to 510nm than 505nm. By now, he may have a totally different diode, so this may not apply.
