Hello and Welcome to LPF! :)

Where (what site, link?) did you find these lasers?
Any info on them at all?
Not easy to judge just looking at two pictures...

Usually I prefer a bigger host (bigger batteries) over AAA-battery pens.
Also, the beefier the host, the better thermal capacity, meaning better heatsinking
and thus longer duty cycles.

Most likely if you buy from any of these 2 sites, it will not be even close to 100mw and hace ALOT of IR. Try wlaser they are very good and reasonable. I have bought from them before and am very pleased. On there website they dont have much but you can email them at wlaserservice@gmail.com

Is there a way you can tell the power/mw of these lasers just from the look or is the Test unit the answer?

The only way to tell laser power is with a laser power meter. There is no other way.
