People here might have read me bash DX in the past, but I must say, I got a very decent laser from them. I spent $18 on it, got it in 3 weeks, and it is labeled 5mW. But can we say overrated? This thing could easily have been sold as the 30. It produces little heat, pops balloons (6" and 13 sec.), has very good beam specs, very clean dot, 4 months old, used ALLOT and overall one of my favorite laser pointers EVER.

I had a dx true 5 a long time ago and I ended up giving it away for free because it would run for 5 minutes on a fresh pair of alkaline batteries. The instant the batteries weakened it would just stop lasing.

Don't get me wrong, I've bought many DX 5's and all of them SUCK, except for this particular one. It does drop approximately 60% power if the batteries are low. But as long as the batts are good, this laser rocks. Even the free DX 5 I got from Jack with the RPL sucks. I tore it apart and plan on replacing the laser with a module.

Btw, you said "overrated" in your first post, I think you meant "underrated" ::)

Well for $18, the thing is a steal. I would have gladly paid more for this type of quality. It is defiantly over 5mW. My true 50 is just a tad brighter, but it's divergence is horrible.
