This is a new project of mine ....
Some info...

Diode: Sharp 100mW 406nm ?
Driver:MicroBoost set at 130mA
Host:Cheap chinese LED torch
Module Housing:Industrial Grade,Aluminium, Dia.18mm,
Lens:Std AR 405 aixiz glass 3 element lens(before 405-G2..Broke)
Batteries:3xAAA rechargeable Varta professional 1000 mAh
Heatsink:high purity aluminium 29mm long x 22mm Dia

i"ve it over a month with really heavy use(sometimes stayed switched on over 10 min, without the heatsink being warm). It burns..well,better said, stinks ... my skin almost immediately from 10m far.Guess that it is over 100mWatts....
It burns black cd case from 15 meters far...(collimated to infinity)
Beam is very visible, specially at night, but then here in Hellas we have pretty humid and sticky and dusty summer nights...
It ignited a red match almost immediatelly from 3 metes far...
Before i had a 405-G2 lens bought from Will...Broke it...Saving some money -not working right now-tough times here..-to buy from Jayrob a 405 G1 or G2(i kinda like the red reflection of G2)..
i'm very happy with that little monster of mine...
Dr Lava's Driver are state of the art gold plated/etched PCB's,durable, precise and high efficiency:bowdown: God of Power Regulation..

Re: Romphea 409nm

thats a nice build, your camera pics up the violet as kind of blue, like the 445's :gj:

stuart :)

Re: Romphea 409nm

I've seen some cameras turn blu ray blue... but not THAT blue!

You say it's VERY visible and burns a black cd case from 15 meters away?

That sounds more like at least 250mw.... minimum. That is one impressive diode you have there...

Camera is an Olympus E-420 with white balance left to Auto.Yes everybody that has seen it,gets amazed by the deep violet very visible beam...Oh and it made one friend jump when pointed at his leg for less than 20 sec, being across the street ordering coffee...Pretty powerfull for 130mAmps (Then i had the 405-G2 lens on...) EDIT:At this time of year everybody here are pretty tanned...that plays a role also...;)

Bought four of these diodes for $ 8.00 each from e-bay.Same source of my SF AW 210 supply...these small ones are quite tough ,thats for sure..

Lately i'm out of cash...pretty messed up here in my country, lots of unemployment,so I will not have the oportunity to soon own a 445nm laser...
Secondly I'm quite fond of the 'mysterious-almost-alien-glow' of the 405nm beam...I would prefer 1Watt 405nm instead of 1Watt 445nm...More burning power...Less biologically active...Still a 'can be a weapon in wrong hands'(future in weapons are lasers,is clearly visible by now...)We all have to exercise a lot of caution..Common Untrained-uncustomed with high power lasers, people, are strongly amazed and attracted by them...Scary...Soon enough in few years it will be still easy to make a >10Watt portable laser pointer working probably in pulsed mode sending thousands of light 'bullets' per second ,raising the surface temperature of the target over 1000 deg Celsious...Very painfull...maybe even fatal... Dark times coming...with light weapons...
