Romisen L-A030 AMC driver

The driver in my 30mW green was playing up, it was under driving the laser most of the time, so much so that it wasn't lasing green.
I measured the current, when it was working it was 250mA, when it wasn't it was at 100mA

anyway i thought, screw it i will just throw an AMC in it and drive it at 350mA
I haven't put a switch in it, but here is what it looks like.
it is a lot brighter than before but is 350mA going to kill it in no time? or is it fine.

Is that in the plastic heatsink? Or is it metal which houses the module? If its plastic, you will definately run into heat issues.

huh? its all metal. that picture is of the module out of the body.here is another pic

Was thinking of the other model. I havent opened one of those, but as long as the heatsink is metal on that one, you should be ok. Running the 7135 on 3.6v should give you a little less than 300ma. You wont be driving it much harder than the default 250ma.
 
I measured it, it sucks 350mA from a charged 3.0V RCR-123
the LD voltage at 350mA is just under 2V, and the voltage drop on the AMC is 0.2V, so it should work down to 2.2V input

but it drains it pretty fast, i really need to get a decent 3.6V cell
 
Is that the same 7135 from a DX DIY board? No matter how many times ive used their boards, I can only squeeze 290 ath the most from a 3.6v lithium. If I use 3 AAA, then the numbers go up, but have never got the desired current otherwise. I must play around with that one, maybe Ican get more from mine if I remove it from the DX board.
 
yeah it is. the board with 3 on it. IgorT gave it to me. what where you driving though? if it was a red then that would make sense. but the voltage drop on these things is only 0.2V

Well Ive driven red and IR with these boards, and always seem to come up short. I have boards with 1, 2, 3, & 4 7135s, when I drive a 1400ma 1watt pump with the 4x 7135, the board gets hot and cant quite hit 1200ma. I dont really mind the safer current and never really put much thought into it, as the results were where I was ok with.
 
the board they come on is useless as far as heatsinking goes.
I just held a micro blow torch to the back of the board until all the chips slid off, and made a new board using a dremel to cut the tracks (CBF etching a circuit)
 
Great! I'm glad you found some use for the AMCs.. :)

AMCs are perfect for green lasers with case positive pumps. I wanted to use them as well, but then i discovered those drivers do actually regulate the current, but don't get enough voltage for it. I might still find some use tho. At the moment i am making some reds with the boards. But i have to insulate the heatsink from the host body...
 
Oh, depending on the diode, 340mA might be close to the edge.. Or it could be just right..

I'm guessing it's a <200mW pump, like in my Rominsen L-D030. The KD50 pump is 200mW and works great at 340mA, but i lost two at 400mA.

The Rominsens use a lower power pump i believe.. I measured it close to 200mW at a lower current (<300mA - higher power diodes need more current for the same power).

I ended up driving my Rominsen at 270mA. But the alignment is bad, and i'm still waiting for the lost replacement.
The body is doing great as a host for DX200 guts tho.. ;) I'm getting 130mW average out of it.
