I recently bought 2 of these cheap lasers to see if they could be the next gen True 30. I have to say that I am impressed with them so far.
Both are brighter than my dx true 30 and because they use lithium 123a batteries they are a lot more stable and don't have any dimming problems. They are also a lot smaller and lighter than the dx true 30. For the price of $30 you can buy the batteries/charger and laser. I didn't need to buy the charger because they charge in my dsd charger that also charges 18650s for my rpl.

These lasers do have one serious design flaw. The driver board and switch aren't supported by anything other than a cheap pad of foam. After a few hundred button depressions the entire driver/switch assembly starts to sink into the laser and you get bad connection/dimming problems. On both of mine this problem was easily fixed by using a glue gun to put some hot melt where the foam was to support the board. I guess for the low price some flaws are inevitable so I won't bash the lasers for this flaw too much.

I would recommend these over the DX true 30 if you already have some spare cr123A batteries and a charger for them. Improved stability+much smaller and lighter+rechargeable lithium ions=can't go wrong.

Here is the actual size of the lasers. They are shown by a dx true 30 for comparison. One is badly scratched due to an attempt at opening it up to pot mod it. I would post some beamshots but the beam looks just like the beam from a true 30 and everyone has seen those.

Nice to hear that its putting out a stable amount of light.

As for the button, you could put foam or paper behind the board to support it, but i'd rather just go for something with a proper on/off switch. This one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11047 is about the same price, and probably has the exact same innards apart from the switch.

Re: Romisen L-A030 30mW Mini Green Laser (CR123A 3

i bought one of these and am wondering if the light output is supposed to be dim when you turn it on cold?
it its turned on cold, it only emits a dim Infra-red output for a second until it starts turning green and finally gets bright a few seconds after that
but after you use it a bit, it turns on and off almost immediately
btw i am using it with 3.0V li-ions

It is normal for lasers to mode hop or dim in the cold. Btw you should use 3.6v rechargeable li-ions for best results with this laser. It won't put out its specified output with 3v primaries.
Buy both of these off dx.

These don't have much burning power at all. The beam is pretty wide and they only put out 30mw. These are good if you want a small/portable/rechargeable pointer with better output stability than the True 30 pens.

Re: Romisen L-A030 30mW Mini Green Laser (CR123A 3

so why is a trustfire 850mah more expensive than a ultrafire 1000mah, both protected.
all the batteries from DX look very dodgy

i guess what i want to know is which dx batteries are the best quality. ie, have decent capacity and can supply decent current

I use the trustfires and ultrafires in everything from lasers to flashlights and they haven't let me down yet. Imo they are very reliable batteries.

The ultrafires are 1/10 inch longer.

Re: Romisen L-A030 30mW Mini Green Laser (CR123A 3

mine has broken, and dx will only pay for the shipping to send it back if it is less than %30. In my case it is more, so they are trying to give me $6 in compensation! not only that, but i can't use the money on anything that costs more than $6.50.
Sould i try to squeeze more money out of them?
