For example when you burn through CD cases and tape they give off smoke. Would breathing in the smoke given off from burning objects damage my lungs or possibly even give me cancer:yabbem: Should I were like a mask or something?

It's definitely not good for you. Alot of plastics give off toxic chemicals when burned or even subjected to high temps.

Honestly the small amount of fumes from a CD case is probably not going to kill you unless you do it for like a hour a day. That said the above poster is correct in that they can and DO release toxic fumes.

When im burning anything for any length of time greater than a min or two ill put on a mask I have that's designed to filter out welding fumes(fits under a welding helmet but can be worn alone too).
