Hi,
Yesterday i found dvd rw from my old computer and i decided to make a laser.i successfully took my diode and soldering my wires to it's pins.after that i wanna check it and i connect it to 9v so i'm very stupid.whatever i saw very bright red flash for a seconds after that when i connect it again and now it's weak.not too much useless butit's like 5mv now.i know i need to use lm317 but i need pins config for connect it right way.so my first question is that how can i control it without damage ? And is it necessery to use module?because aixiz is not cheap.for x16 dvd rw red laser diode,the lm317 and 10ohm resistor is enough?please somebody can tell me what should i do after i get diode step by step?
 





You should use the white search bar at the bottom of the site - there are loads of guides on how to do this, both on here and other places on the internet.

If you hooked your diode directly up to a 9V battery, chances are that it is dead.
 
i searched it very much but i have some problems anyway.after this week i will buy another dvd rw and take diode.So
1-i connect it lm317 and 10ohm resistor before i use it
2-i don't use over 6v
3-i need heatsink or any kind of steel
4-don't use it without driver(lm317)
is that right?have you advice? or something i need to know

My goodness what were you thinking With no driver or a PSU to check the efficiency. First steel is a no no for heat transfer Copper or Aluminum for heat sinking. If you salvaging the diode from a sled and you want 16x 405nm diode It should say at least BDR 209. DTR Has this diode with drive in the correct CU module pre wired. Driver will be set to 600mA's this will get you close to 900 mW's safely. All you have to do is read it's that easy
As Diachi stated there's a search bar on the bottom of the main page. Use this it has loads of info your looking for. DTR also has 635nm red diodes very cheap i think your mistaken 16x 405 with a 638nm . The BDR 209 sled from a Blu Ray DVD burner has 2 diode 1 405nm 16x and a flat package red diode.

To be honest, at this novice level i'd recomment NOT getting something like a BDR209. They aren't overly expensive, but at $50 or so a pop making mistakes like these will become an expensive hobby quite quickly.

Start with building drivers on test loads, then go to something like a $10-ish dvd or bluray writer diode. And really use the test loads, even if you have a fair bit of electronics experience you can still mess things up quite easily.

Also look into the safety information! That dvd writer diode can literally blind an eye even when hooked up badly!
 
I found a aluminum heatsink for cpu cooling and i will drill a small hole for diode on it and i use lm317 and 5ohm resistor like styropyro 3$ cheap laser driver video is it right and i use two aaa batteries
 
2 aaa batteries will not provide sufficient votage to power it.
 
I know i need 6v so can i use 9v batteries instead of them and can driver drive 9v batteries current.
 
The questions that are being asked, really suggest that you should be using the search feature 1st. A weekend of searching should give you the answers that you need. There's pretty much a standard on what people are using for batteries. And if you use any Non-rechargeable type of batteries, you'll be spending more money in batteries than if you just went with some rechargeable batteries to begin with. (ex. 18650). You haven't really said what you'd like to accomplish with this build, but it sounds like it really won't even be in a host. if that's the case, why even use batteries? why not a power supply in the correct voltage?
I myself am still a newb when it comes to building lasers. But after a few days of searching, I had a pretty good idea of where to start.
 
first of all i make a list about my materials
-red laser diode from dvd rw
-lm317 and resistors
-some batteries(no PSU and i can't have one)
-5x5x2 cm aluminum
-lens

i don't use host because aixiz is expensive and i can't buy it because some other problems:cryyy: so i know that laser housing can use because protect diode from heat and lens:thinking:.i don't have psu but like you said i don't need pen type laser it can be little messy and simple.i wanna use batteries that can not recharge because i wanna test the laser after that i can use the other ones too ;).here is my plan:D

-drill a hole for diode in aluminum and place it with some thermal glue
-make simple lm317 driver
-found a battery(6v and under 200mA)
-hook up the diode to driver
-hook up the driver to battery
-if it's works i will use lens

Wait, you're not going to use an Aixiz module or something similar to mount the diode? You probably don't want to use thermal glue on there for one, you don't want to get that on the diode window.

Second - how are you going to mount a focusing lens to the block? You can get an Aixiz module for like $10 - better to spend the money and do it properly.
 
i tried my first idea and if it isn't worked out i will buy one and as i can see no problem without housing.
 
What would be the problem with aixiz modules, and why would they be expensive? You can buy them off ebay for a couple of dollars (genuine or imitation) including a plastic lens that will work in your basic dvd writer setup (though not perform very well).
 
Those are fine, and easier to use than the original 'aixiz module' since the diode is screw fit instead of press fit. A bit of heat conductive compound should be used, when you screw them in tighly thermal contact should be fine for dvd writer diodes.
