Red burning laser

So I bought a <5mW red laser from radioshack today, and I'm trying to turn it into a burning laser. I know that with a green laser you can remove the top and batteries and then do the whole screw/soldiring iron thing. I can't remove the top of my laser though. Is there a specific way to do it? Would it work with a red laser?

If you pot mod your green laser, most likely what's going to happen is that it will have a very short life. You might be able to get it to output more power but if you do get it to burn, it won't last too long.
You can't do this with a red laser.
