10pcs mini 650nm 5mW 3V Laser Dot Diode Module Head

I ordered these hoping I'll be able to use them for a spy movie like obstacle course. Has anyone used these before? How long do you think these will remain lit if I use 2 AA batteries to power them? I'd need them to remain on for a couple hours I'd hope...

thanks all!

First of all you should put some fog in the room to make the beams appear.
These small lasers, dont need a lot of current so they will last a lot of hours.
Except if you batts are very bad ! Buy the energizer one.

I am just curious , are they focusable and can be used for cheaper red builds as a replacement for aixiz, I have trouble with aixiz housings, they got lost twice in the past few months, so i had to order from olike.

I dont think these modules are focusable.
Probably focused to infinity.
What problem do you have with the aixiz housings ?

Jim

You have those? Are they invisible even with a fog machine in the room creating fog?

My alternate choice is a bunch of those dollar store laser pointers. Those I know will show up with fog in the room, I'll have to disassemble them and power them with a couple AA batteries so they'll last a couple hours though....

Yes I have them. No you can't see the beam at <1mW of red.

dang, can't see the beam even with a fog machine in the room huh? Well that sux ;-(

what would you recommend as the cheapest laser that can be seen inside a fog filled room?

laser heads arrived today and they are quite bright! I'm very happy with them, $7.35 for 10 of them can't be beat either.

Gunna fire up the fog machine and test them tomorrow :-)

I have experience with modules similar to these and <1mW red HeNes, you don't have to worry about beam visibility with fog.

If you want a cheap laser that shows up in fog go on ebay and order a bunch of those $5 green lasers. They show up slightly without fog and can easly be modded to output up to 100mw.

100mW for how long? A fraction of a second?

5mW lasers are built to be run at 5mW, pot modding is only good for killing your laser.

True they are only designed for 5 mw or so but more often then not those 5mw diodes will last 15 - 20 hours putting out that much power. but he would have to let them cood down or they would burn out.

Yes, that's true, you are lucky if your laser works at all after blindly lowering the resistance.

Here is a thread about pot modding: http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/pot-modding-faqs-40510.html

"The vast majority of laser pointers available on the open market now are operating at or near the output limit of the laser diode, so putting more power into the diode by adjusting the potentiometer will -- more likely than not -- just burn your laser out."

True, but a lot of these lasers are priced at under $10, so the risk vs reward ratio is pretty good.
