You're right, but most larger high-output lasers are based on lab designs. And since the laser, when turned on, is flashy and "neato" enough, there's not much point in making the housing fancy.

When you're like Wicked and selling potentially dubious products, perhaps a fancy casing makes more sense.

I also think (at least in the U.S.) if lasers are given fancy casings and look like "toys", they'll get even more unwanted regulatory scrutiny.

Then there is simple capitalisim/economics. If the lasers sell well as-is, there is no incentive to "improve" them cosmetically or otherwise.

Well personally I like the look of the high power lasers out there. But that is just me. And besides, functionality over looks is the main reason most of us buy them. I mean if I want a sexy laser that just works, I think we all know where to get one :D

I guess everyone looks for different qualities in a laser. As I stated before, most of us here do not really care for the look as much as its performance. I guess if more people started to request lasers with "psychedelic" looks they might start to make them.

Someone posted pictures of ergonomic shaped pointers at one time, can't seem to find them though...they were unusual :-/

I love the look of the Spyder II's, too bad most of them are underpowered. One thing that I found interesting is the CNI pen lasers. The pictures on the internet don't make the product look very good, but when I got one in person it look very well designed and I couldn't believe how good it looked compared to ppictures I've seen. So mushiver, you're not the only one who likes a good outside casing1

I am of the same opinion you are, pen styels done to death, Lets make them a bit more interesting!

I have a host in the mail and the second pic is my burner, after I cleaned it up a bit.

High Octane, we were just discussing using one of those as a host in laserchat the other night! lemme know how it goes, i've bought one of those phasers (just cuz i like star trek n really love the look of the old star trek stuff) and considered using it as a host before :)
