So, its been a while since I came up with the idea of using some cd or dvd player laser to make my own laser pointer.
What a surprise when I started searching for information and discovered that it is a well known procedure.
That being said, I found mysefl with two dvd RW ready to open up, and upon reading guides, and watching vids on youtube, I've got some questions:
Should take under concideration I don't intend on using the laser on long runs, as in more that 10seconds without shutting it off, as you would with an 90s 1-2 dolars <5mw pointer.
- What exactly are the bare minimun, bare bone items you need to get working a laser diode extracted from, say, a DVD-RW ?
- Why not just pull out the diode and connect it barely to the batteries at hand?
- Whats with the aixiz laser rig ? what is it ? whats the purpose of it ?
- Some guides/vids speak of a led lantern, whats that for?
- The big questions, what exactly is a driver ? whats the purpose of it ?
- If being absolutely neccesary to use a driver, can a <5mw pointer driver be used ?
-Can i just use and old <5 mw red pointer as host for a DVD-RW diode and be down with it ?
