Questions about Optotronics

I am looking at ether a RPL or PPL from Optotronics. Where did the design of these types of lasers come from? It seems like everyone is making a baton style laser and prices fluctuate wildly. What makes a Optotronics so much better then say a DX? Also, are Optotronics lasers manufactured in the US?

Difference is that Opotronics rigorously test and screen their products so you only get the best. Where as DX just sell you whatever they get, and you never know if it'll be good.
