I just thought about this today after noticed that people in public places tend to keep to the right side of the sidewalk, enter through the doors on the right hand side, and always veer to the right when you almost bump into somebody.

I figure its because we in the USA drive on the right side of the road..

Do any of you folks in the U.K. notice anything like this about people in public? Do you guys tend to gravitate off to the left hand side?

Or is this all hogwash?

I think people tend to steer left when walking, i know i do..and use the left hand door...never really thought about it...dont know wether its related to drivin on the left?, odd because in places where there are escalators (train stations and the such) people who wish not to walk up the escalator stand to the right, to allow people to pass.

I seem to walk on the left too, but as for the door, I just use any, all depends on which direction I'm coming from

Yeah, I suppose there are always circumstantial exceptions. But I just think its kind of funny is all. Everyone from the same place does the same thing, and it just makes a little system which agrees with itself.

I always thought it was more based on which hand is your main hand, for example I'm right handed so I always open the right door and tend to walk on the right too, though at school we are encouraged to always stay to our left.
