... Why is everyone ranting on toaster? I don't spend my time reading all the threads, so I've never seen him post before, but what he posted here was perfectly fine and then everyones responses were rather harsh. I think what he meant was that the majority of people here don't use them much anymore. They are not sold under the BST because they're expensive for low power. If you want a low power 405nm laser, you'd be better off buying a 5mW one on ebay for much cheaper. If you repair PS3's, then yes, perhaps you need one, but most people here don't, so what you're saying sounds rediculous in reverse - going to a forum about PS3's and talking about some powerful blu-ray burner laser. As for the optics, they're nice but not worth >$30. Additionally, not many people here need a low powered red, IR, blu-ray, and photodiode laser all in one, especially when you can't run them at the same time without heat issues and risk of burning out the diode. People used to buy them all the time on ebay and they were much cheaper - labeled "broken" but in fine condition for extracting the laser. I still have a new KES sled I got from Dave for $7 a while back - if anyone wants to purchase it from me for over $30, PM me. I also have KES sleds with dead diodes in it which I could sell too. The fact is, people don't use them much anymore so quit being snobby and saying "research helps" or "keep it zipped when you have noooo ideaaa what you're talking about" when somebody makes a point which is at least partially, if not entirely right.
