problems with lite on 20x laser module

hello to ya all
i extracted laser module from my lite on 20x dvd rw
, i made driver based on 317 IC, measured it and everything is fine
first i used 3 aaa batteries as a source
i got very very small light from module
then i used 4 aaa, result was the same
then i used 9v battery - the same
and then i pissed off and connected battery directly to the module
result was - the same as the above
i'm very very confused by this
i will post pictures tomorrow...

I do not know "how" because I wasn't there, but it sounds like you blew your diode. You don't have a laser any more. You have an LED now.

Welcome to LPF,
So now that you made yourself a test load out of your laser diode, you can use it to
re-check the current supplied by your driver.

I blew my first diode too! Turns out I completely miswired my driver circuit somehow.
My blown diode now makes a great test load for setting the current. Better luck
with your next diode.

Club newbie, the old DIY test load mod,

I belong to another club also, the burned up test load made from a blown diode

i do not get it, how could i blew my diode if i have set my pot to 550 ohms?
at 550 ohms there was no light
my guess is that diode was then blown away from the start because the man who gave me dvd rw said that he is not sure if it still works
but it costed me nothing so it is ok , at least i have now a test load

I got the same module. Can anybody tell me what the other diode is? thers one thats the open can with 3 pins, then there is the other , just normal diode with 3 pins also.

I also have a 20x i took apart. There is a red long open can diode and then an IR diode. It has a little piece of purple sheen glass lense on it.
