If it's mode hopping..you will loose all of your burning ability!
1 week before my warranty expired..my X-105 started Mode hopping....
Very strange... as by that time..everything should have burned in properly....
When it mode hopped..there was no doubt....no match lighting..no burning...
Even the old "Skin Test" proved that the laser was hopping...
Anyway..contact Nova..they will take Care of you...
With Nova Customer satisfaction is #1........
Oh..Nice choice of laser..My Alpha is fast becoming my favorite laser!

The "alpha" CNI series doesn't respond much to turning the pot. I did it in my Lucent Envee (same laser, different name) and the difference was hardly noticeable. I just turned it back to the factory setting and left it alone.
If you search, the instructions are out there, but it's really not worth the time.
The most worthwhile mod I did to mine was solder a bypass wire inside the cap so I didn't have to use the stereo plug to turn it on. The key, shutter and 3 second delay are enough IMO.
