Possible career with lasers/laser pointers? *Help*

Hello all!

First of all, I would like to thank you for clicking on this thread and taking your precious time to read through what is below, It means a lot to me.


I recently started thinking of what job/job's might interest me in the future and what I wanted to make of myself. Im currently 17, almost out of H.S and currently do not hold a job. I am currently focusing my life on getting as good of grades as I can and collecting my rainbow Earlier in life I had a passion to become a pilot and that died not too long ago and was replaced with lasers.

A few weeks ago while on a trip to Southern California we passed "Cal-Poly", a very science and technolgy oriented university. As we drove iaround the school on a "mini-tour" we saw they had many science buildings which cover most science domains from A to Z. I started to wonder if this would be a perfect place to study lasers and it seems to be.


Now I must ask, what careers exist with lasers? I know some of the followings exist:

- Medical
- Construction
- Weapons

I was also thinking of working in one of the many laser companies or something in that domain, if the earlier listed applications do not work out. What do you guys think?

PS: Wanting to live in Nuuk, Greenland when I am older I was also thinking of having my own "laser-store"

long shot here but you could learn Chinese and get a PhD in optoelectronics and work for CNI making all sorts of crazy new lasers and laser systems.

Lasers are used in SOOOO many applications that you wouldn't even know of. There are endless careers that relate to lasers in some way. CNC machinists often use lasers for cutting/engraving, and even police use lasers in the highway patrol here in their LIDAR. I have used lasers for CNC applications, and i have even gotten the chance to use a Lidar device when my dad was working with them

If you like physics... optoengineering, optoelectronics, photonic theory, photonic microscopy, lots of stuff use lasers. A large part of the future of the medical industry will use lasers, not to mention materials science and fabrication industries. Think about a subject that you are interested in and then try and put lasers into the picture, otherwise you'll have thousands of possible subjects

Hi everybody!

This is my first post here.

For start I wanna to apologize for my english! I'm not a native, but I'll try to explain in minimum details what I want.

I even know for where I begin...

Well, I've read a lot of stuff on internet and here on the forum...but it seems as more I read more I get confused.

So, I'll say what I need.

I'm looking for a laser diode that could burn/write/engrave a PCI surface! Just the surface, and isn't made of copper! It's like this on the picture:

I guess the surface of this kind of board is made by varnish ink, so that laser have to be powerful enough to burn the "skin" the board.

My goal is not to draw a circuit on the board! Is just write words and numbers on it.

I hope you have understood!

I read around, that the low wavelength is better for making/burn in non black materials, then the wavelenght have to be lower for my purpose, right?

I would like that you guys could indicate the best diode laser, lens and drivers, In order to I possibly can do what I want

I'm sorry for ask all for you, but I'm a tired to looking for and don't find what I need even more because I'm in a hurry!
