hey everyone just liked this flashlight alot thought it would make a cool host being gold with a blue beam. i dont wanna necessarily buy it if it wont work all that well. i think it might fit the jayrob mxdl heatsink, so i think ill get one of those and if i cant use it for my blu ray then ill use it in my mxdl i just finished last night (btw it torches. melts black tape in about 5 seconds and stings my hand lol)

well it really all depends on the internals! and the size you have to work with but im sure its doable but i doubt ays heatsink would fit but he will custom make one if you send him the host or give him measurements

the front of the flashlight seems like it may be sort of hard to make it work

may involve a very custom heat sink that also holds the + battery spring

well if you look closely it looks like the mxdl where the circuit is pressed onto the metal ring. the metal ring looks screwed on to the lens reflector thing. maybe if jay gets around to reading this we can see his opinions

The brass part should screw out of the reflector ring. You can then use the reflector as the base for the heat sink or to support the module.

Peace,
dave

THAT THING IS UGGGGLLYYYYYY !

Sorry, but I just think it looks like some cheap prop off a 60's movie set to me.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions right ?

Anyway, it may not look good, but there is a heap of space for a nice big meaty heat sync , which is a great thing ;)

yeah i was thinkin to just get jayrob to make me a heatsink. i want it to look nice and clean. :) hopefully he will be able to and with luck it will be the same size as the mxdl. i also bought the flashlight today so it should be here soon.

and anyone know about the KES-410A diode from psx boy? is it a bluray because im not lookin for extreme power but just a blu beam. if anyone has used one of these id like to know if they are good for using

So far, the hosts that I have made heatsinks for, have a circuit board or separate aluminum piece to mount the driver into. That host looks like the batteries would just connect to the spring at the bottom of the reflector/LED mount. I'm sure it can be done, but it may take some sort of design that can not only hold the heatsink in place, but also have something to mount the driver to, and connect to the positive end of the batteries...

i *would* recommend THIS gold MXDL. it is the same as the 3405 and jay makes a heatsink for it, but sadly, i bought it and what i received was not gold, but very brownish/bronze.

You've never seen real (pure) gold in situ, have you?

The pile on your left (the screen's right) is the color of pure gold. It is more "brownish/bronzy." The other pile is Jewelry gold. The gold you see in jewelry is mixed with other metals (silver, nickel, copper, paladium) to make it "harder." These other metals change the color.

Blue and Gold? My school colors. :D My dad gets a free LED flashlight from Menards for his b-day, so it may be a good host.

Gold is for paupers.

At $800 a troy ounce, it is only worth about $7 a carat.

I dig tourmaline.

I sell tri-color tourmaline gemstones to the public for $300 a carat and to my friends for $200 a carat.

Pretty. 8-) What about canary diamonds (don't know if I spelt that right) which are around $10,000 a carat?

There's not many diamond mines in Southern California ;) Probably the most expensive tourmaline is Paraiba tourmaline. It has copper included as the chromophore. It sells for about $4,000 a carat :o I met the mine supervisor from Paraiba once. He wouldn't give me any samples :'(

Peace,
