Here's an analogy that may make this clearer. Say we wanted to know what Trump weighs. We could put him on a scale and that would tell us. Now, say Karoline Leavitt, who has a tenuous grip on the truth, is the person who is reading this scale. She would likely call it 100 lbs less. Get it?!
