I built a 2w laser a few years ago and now that things are a bit cheaper I am planning on building a 6w+.

If I get this module (https://www.ebay.com/itm/6W-NUBM44-450nm-20mm-Copper-Laser-Module-W-Driver-G-2-Lens-/182389461738) with driver, Diode and lens and use the host (https://www.survivallaser.com/DIY_S...nded_Heat_Sink,_Unmarked/p556088_6363629.aspx) and slide it in the 20mm module after I remove the 12mm copper that comes in the host.
And a contact board.

Will it be that easy? (after soldering the connections).

I ask because my last build I had to get a driver separate, a diode and lens and put it all together. Just want to check to see if Im missing anything.

Would This host be a better alternative for heat dissipation: https://www.survivallaser.com/S4X__Host_Assembly/p556088_14521638.aspx with the 20mm module adaptor https://www.survivallaser.com/20mm_Diode_Module_Adapter/p556088_17159452.aspx

Thanks

I think either one would be fine.

Here's a direct link to DTR's page it will save you a few dollars. Best wishes with your second build. :)

thanks! I chose ebay because I sometimes get 5-10% coupons off, then its cheaper, even though his ebay is about $5usd more than his website. But shipping on eBay is $2 less for international.
SO that stainless steel host will work fine with the 20mm module? I have that exact same host on my 2w laser, so Im familiar with it. I did a quick measure and the copper that came with it is a 20mm, so im assuming it should be a direct swap with the 6w module.

One thing I haven't found is the contact board. where can I get one of those?

Looks to be a fair option for a contact board.

If you look up "470nm overdrive special" by DTR, you will see that 20mm adapter was designed to work with DTR's 20mm modules ;)

Look forward to seeing this build come together

Also check out the following. Would just need to throw that 20mm Module in and connect 2 wires.
Gotta admit though, that sx4 is a big chunk of aluminum but that 20mm copper module is a good chunk of thermal mass on it's own.

If I order the https://www.survivallaser.com/DTR_20mm_Diode_Module_Host_Bundle/p556088_17737336.aspx
It already comes with the contact board, right?
Also I can order the G-2 lens from there for $8 and it will fit the 'NUBM44 450nm Diode In 20mm Copper Module W/Driver' which DTR sells for $25?

Will two 18350 batteries run well on this 6W laser? Or would a two 18650 be a better option like in the S4?

Are there any other good low cost hosts? The shipping alone for that will be $25. So maybe other places like Gearbest or Banggood have flashlight hosts that can work?

I wouldn't cheap out on a host for this as it expends a lot of waste heat. You need something with a large mass of copper to pull that heat away from the diode and give decent run times. We have members here that machine hosts just for this purpose. Or you might be able to find one prewired and ready to drop that module into it. Lifetime17 and ElectriPlasma both do this kind of work.
