Pie in the sky?

Hi All,
This is probably ridiculous but is there a system that can project a 1 metre interval grid on to a concrete floor from a height of 15 metres over an area 100m by 200m with an margin of error of less than 5mm.

I'll get what I deserve no doubt but thanks anyway.

I don't know if you will be able to get it that big from that height, I am not sure about precision either, but it's probably possible....

What are you trying to accomplish?

Technically it should be doable, but it would have to be custom made, and testing it out to make sure it is within the tolerance would be very difficult.

It won't be cheap

Maybe you can find someone here or on photonlexicon to take on such a project.

I think that you will find that the geometry for that would be seriously difficult to pull off.
You might be able to find something that will allow you to project onto a smaller area then you would need to mark the edges and move the device over to repeat the process.
Off-hand I am thinking that if you can get a suitable method for projecting a grid that aiming up at a concave or parabolic reflector might be the best method of increasing the pattern size. The trick will be to keep the grid from expanding or distorting as you travel farther from the point of projection. At the center your grid lines might be 15 degrees apart but when you get out 20 metres away the angle between each projected line may be down to just a couple of degrees. You need to figure it out exactly. I'm not willing to crunch the math and numbers myself.
Keep us posted on your options and the outcome though.

Thanks so much for the replies. I can't say too much but I am tendering for a project in a couple of years which requires me to drill a lot of holes. I have plenty of time to do the drilling but I have virtually no time to mark the positions of the holes. If I can work from a projected 1m grid I might have a fighting chance of getting the job done within the time constraints. Clearly I'm out of my depth with regards to the technology but I'm wondering what's possible.
