Hey guys need help with my PHR hotlight build. Firstly the diode is a PHR set at ~100ma with a boost driver. It is in a hotlight host. The schematic is something like this

. I personally think something is wrong with the driver negative touching the case. It works outside the host.

Is it an 805 or 803.?

As the 805 are Case - and will not work with that driver.

When you say that you think there is something wrong with the driver negative touching the case; do you mean the connection may not be strong enough for continuity?

The case is negative, so the negative driver lead cant short on the host.
The positive can though.

I believe you are on to something, though.
Check all of your connections and insulated parts of driver and leads for shorts.

Edit: Ah, I was not aware of the difference in pinout between the 803 and 805.
Thanks for the info, Angelo. :thanks:

OHH angles thanks, im not sure whether it is a 805 or 803, i will check with the seller. in the meanwhile can i make it out some way.

Well you dont have to ask the seller i can tell you here.:)

Is the - wire from the drivers diode output going to the diode case pin of the diode.?

In other words are you using the Case pin on the diode.?

Nope my diode doesnt have a case pink just + and -

Oops I meant the 805 are case -. Not case +. Thinking of 635nm at the moment as im working on a 40mW now.

Yea it wont work because its shorting.:(

LOL. Are you using the case pin of the diode. There should be 3 pins on the back of the diode.

The Pin without the insulation is the case pin. Do you have a wire going to that.?

Sorry for the confusion. The Turkey has messed with my Head today.:p

There are only two pins????

EDIT: THERE ARE THREEE

On a PHR.? Ive never ever seen a PHR with 2 pins only. They are 3 pin.

Hmmm

Can you take a picture of the back of your diode.

Sound like you dont have a PHR.

Regardless is the - pin on the diode not insulated.

Woops there are 3 one, just looked close up. So if i am rite i solder the case pin to the driver LD -
Nope its not insulated.

Yeap so its a PHR-805T and cannot be used with that driver unless you insulate the diode from the driver.:(

A Linear type driver running of 2x 10440 with a spacer will work great for that build.:)

Like a LM1117 driver for Example.

Or

A FlexDrive.

See these new 805 have the same pin-out as red diodes do. So you have to use a driver that the negative is running continuous.

Most Boost driver if not all that i have seen wont work.

Might be cheaper for you to pick up a PHR-803T sled then buying a new driver.:undecided:
