Single mode diodes produce beams of better specs than multimode at the cost of output power. AFAIK all 405nm diodes are single mode and the standard 1-2W 445nm diodes we use are multimode for example.
Lenses are dependent on the use of the laser. For close range burning go with a single lens optic and for longer range burning and pointing use a 3-element. That's about as simple as I can put it.
I was just asking the current on the supply because I was thinking maybe it was insufficient but that is easily overkill so its fine.
