THREAD IS NO LONGER ACTIVE
Hi everyone, especially c0ldshadow.
This is a great forum and in general I think there are very few problems, a minimum of trolling/fighting/scamming/spamming compared to other forums (cough LC cough) and the whole thing works beautifully. This is probably the most free forum I have ever experienced for any subject, with most people being helpful and often hilarious and opinions being voiced readily without fear of being banned just for criticising a company or anything similar.
One thing I would like however, is a change of the way the rep system works. I understand that a minimum of 51 posts before you can rep someone is a must so people do not create multiple accounts and rep themselves, but it often means that people do not get credit for helping out noobs. I and many other people try to help whenever we can, but when you are not that experienced with lasers, ever actually getting a good reputation is not easy, as the only people you can really help a lot do not have 51 posts yet. When the user eventually reaches that amount of posts, he/she will at most times have forgotten about having been helped.
My suggestion therefore is to have a "pending rep" system, where users who do not have 51 posts CAN + or - rep other people, but that rep only shows up when they reach 51 posts. In this way, people would still not be able to self rep through fake accounts, but helping someone with only a few posts would still be recognised eventually as you being a helpful member here.
Now I am NOT saying I deserve more rep than I have - I realise it is something you have to work very hard indeed for, and is often only given after a smooth deal with another member. This is why someone like daguin, IgorT and lasersbee to name a few have such good rep while many others with similar numbers of posts have far fewer.
However, I do think that rep should be given in cases where a person has really helped another member, as this means other people who come to the forum for help will respect the helpful persons advice, even if that person has not traded a lot.
Thank you for your time and I hope you will provide constructive feedback.
Seb
