Not sure if this is my first thread and/or review but I would like to take this time to review this product. I ordered this laser on September 19, 2012 and received it in the mail today on the 25th. Keep in mind I'm in Vancouver, Canada and the item would have passed through customs. I'm quite content with the shipping time as most lasers I have ordered would usually take at least two weeks.

10/10 for shipping!

As for the packaging itself, I ordered via express shipping so it arrived in USPS express mail packaging. It is secured well with the adequate amount of bubble wrapping. Opening the package itself was quite strenuous as the tape holding the bubble wrap was quite tight. I'm happy with that knowing my package will most likely not be damaged on the way here.

10/10 for packaging and handling!

After struggling to open the well packaged package, there is a leathery pen case. Opening the pen case you will be greeted by a large, golden italicized title "GREEN LASER POINTER". You will find the laser pointer itself and a little note. The case itself is like any case you would receive ordering a pen laser pointer. The optotronics pen laser on the other hand is significantly heavier than a cheap ol' pen laser pointer. Without knowing, this laser pointer looks like any other laser pointer out there which I don't mind at all. Then again that is a personal opinion; some people may want some style. The little note gives you a brief summary of your laser, safety instructions and battery instructions. You will also notice a handwritten, verified output statement. Mine is verified at 128+ mW which I hope is true to its words as I don't have an LPM at the moment. I would believe so as Jack has a reputation here as being one of the best here after all.

9/10 for the case and laser aesthetics.

First thing I did was calculate the divergence and take a look at the dot (SAFELY) from a reasonable distance (50 - 55ft)

The first test I completed was calculating the divergence from 18.8feet using that guys mRad calculator. (Sorry guys I'm rushing this review so I don't remember the name of the mRad calculator on google)

at 0ft beam is 1.5mm
at 18.8ft beam is 8mm
mRad = 1.13

The second test I did was mainly for observing the dot but I also tried to measure the mRad on this one too. Keep in mind, I did not measure the distance, this is a ballpark so my divergence calculations on this test may be completely wrong.

at 0ft beam is 1.5mm
at 50 - 55ft beam is approx. 30mm
mRad = 1.87

I took the two and averaged them giving me an mRad of 1.5. I have the pictures attached so please feel free to calculate the mRad again and give me a more accurate reading.

The dot from 50 feet as shown in the photo is not exactly circular but more of an oval shape. Although, it is still closer to circle. I believe the term would be near TEM00 or TEM01. Please correct me forum.

8/10 for divergence and dot!

The laser itself is very bright even in lit areas. The beam is very visible although my room is dusty so the may play a large factor. I don't have night shots yet since it's day but I'll have some up ASAP. Also this laser good at burning stuff

9.5/10 for brightness and burning!

Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase and I would purchase from Jack again!

Please criticize this as much as possible so I know what to add and remove.

Nice review!
Just wanted to let you know i bought a 150mW version off a member here, and he had it for a few years and it still meters at around 115mW.
I've dropped it in a river for like 2 seconds (damn shallow pockets) and hooked it out left it in the airing cupboard for a day and it still works the same, no power drop.
Just thought i'd let ya know these things seem to last well! :)

You're very lucky man! If that happened to me, I'd know it's dead. Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it! :thanks:

No problem! If there's one bit of critique i could add is get some night time outdoor beamshots, don't need em but most people (including me) are suckers for em. :D

The first test from 18.8 feet is the best mRad calculation. The one where the dot is 30mm I didn't measure the distance, I ballparked it, so the mRad might not be right.

My newest and I believe accurate is this.

Beam diameter = 1.5mm
Distance = 250ft
Beam diameter at distance = 60mm
mRad = 0.7

Now that's better :beer:

bump. my lens got quite dirty over a couple days (my house is very dusty unfortunately) and my button seemed quite a bit loose so I contacted Jack. He was willing to take the laser back for inspection and cleaning and I thought, might as well upgrade! So over the following week or so I will be purchasing the optotronics 175mW pen laser as it has never been reviewed! Btw, Jack is one of the nicest persons I have made contact with in service terms. I'm quite a worrisome person and during the process of shipping I've gotten quite nervous on where my package was and the condition of the lens. Rest assured, Jack was very helpful providing me feedback on what I should do and what he can do to help. I felt as I had harassed him for a week straight so I sent an apology email and direct quote he replied "don't worry about all the questions, it's our job to provide the best customer service we can." I'm very satisfied if not the most satisfied customer of optotronics! Thanks Jack if you are reading this.

This is off topic, but you ordered the laser on my birthday! RANDOM!!:bday:

I bought one of these as well (100 mw) and have been "testing" it by taking out every night and seeing how stable it is and wether or not it maintains its power and it does. The only time ive had a problem is when its less than 50 degrees out. I guess my lens had gotten dirty because the dot suddenly had a huge spotty ring around it. I took some canned air and sprayed directly at the lens very briefly, like not even a half a second and it was fixed. Just to help anyone else who gets one. My only complaint was the button messed up on me rather easily, i think from carrying the laser in my pocket too much, but it still works.

Oh i didnt know that there was a deadline on how long we were able to review a product thats still being sold. I apologize if anyone loses any sleep over it, but i dont think i will lol
