Open Can diodes

WHere can I get (other thank from a DVD burner) a ready to use open can diode? I dont want to salvage one form a drive, because, A: the leads are small, and B: I will kill it trying to remove the little pcb thing fromthe back.

if there are no readily avalable open cans, where can I find a 300mW diode?

also, it would be cool to know what DVD burners have open cans. I mean the very powerful 350mA open cans.
