Would the diode be ok if i connected the diode straight to the maglite thats powered by two AA batteries and i use the laser in 10 second intervals? all that lm317  stuff doesnt look like it will fit inside the maglite so i dont really want to use it if i dont have to

I wouldn't make one without a driver, you are likely to burn the diode out straight away or virtually straight away.

To quote Daedal the guy who wrote the modding a maglite thread found here: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1185702678
PLEASE NOTE: THIS MOD CONNECTS THE DIODE DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERIES! YOU COULD POSSIBLY BURN OUT THE DIODE AT ANY MOMENT, POSSIBLY INSTANTLY!!

sooo, I am new to pay-pal. if i send the money to your email, do i have to give you the adress i need to diodes sent to? sorry if this sounds kind of n00bish but any help will be appreciated. also after reading about the 3v current debate, couldnt it just be solved by using a potimeter?

thank you heaps. i will be buying 2 very soon :)

But still does anyone know if i could just use a pot to limit the current or if not what ohm resistor should i use? i read deadels liniter and was wondering if my way was just a slightly simpler way to achieve the same thing.

Welcome to all the newcomers and I hope you all have a great time with your new laser diodes.

I just wanted to let everyone know that connecting a laser diode directly to batteries is VERY BAD!

You could go the easy route and buy the laser diodes driver:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1188850622

Or you could make it yourself:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1185701612

Or you can try to put it all in a flashlight like such:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186966870

Either way, DO NOT CONNECT THE LASER DIODE DIRECTLY TO BATTERIES!!!

yayayayay im back from camp... and my 2 small Aixiz modules arrived!!! They both work... but they're a bugger to collimate. Arwell, now just waiting for those diodes from you SenKat!
Other thing is, I only found out about adding the postage cost after I paid, and I still got them! kewl.

All - as a general FYI - my sales page is offline temporarily while I clean up my shop, do inventory, and ensure that nobody was missed in teh packaging frenzy that ensued after the diodes arrived :-) PLUS - there seems to be a general "Asian" communications issue this week - I wired funds on tuesday, and have heard nothing back from teh distributor, so I have no idea what the staus is on the last batch of diodes (spares) that should be here tomorrow (normally !) Not to worry (I hope ! LOL) we will see how this turns out yet again !

Yay! Thank you GREG. I have recieved my diode! :D. It's in a yellow-orage scotch padded envelope in a plastic box, in alluminum (Probably to keep it in place/ground it) >_>. THANKS GREG. I love you in some weird way. ;D

how long do you think this invintory will take i can't waite to buy a couple of diodes now that i sold my classic.

which is coming your way ;)

I will be ready to "reopen" most likely Sunday...I have lots of cleaning up to do - must mount my new drill press and vise, and get an area set aside for all the rest of my crap ! I cannot get anything done on my work bench, since it is crowded with packaging supplies, etc !

G !

Payment sent.

Ill be using the minimag mod with this diode, Ill be sure to use some...very used AA batteries.

If I do that, I should be fine right?

What voltage should I run it at? Around 2.4?

Not their fault in most cases, the viral video is to blame IMO.
Thank the powers that be for resources here for those wise enough to take it beyond "I saw it on the internet."

OKC-Kat...you are correct, AND I think lots of folks forget their roots on here sometimes...Everyone starts SOMEWHERE !
