One tough fly with good eye balls

I'm in the kitchen and there is this fly buzzing around annoying the crap out of me. I always thought about doing this so I figure I am going to laser him.
I grab a 200mw green.
He is sitting on the window sill and I give him about a 5 second shot from about 4 feet. He just sits there. Then he climbs up the wall a bit. I give him another shot he just sits there then goes up unto the curtains. I had to leave so didn't do anything else.
I come home and he's still there.
No more screwing around. I get a 1.3w 445 and start chasing him. He goes into the bath room and I shut the door.
He lands and I hit him at about 4 ft.
He is instantly up and flying!
He would buzz around for about 30 seconds and land and I kept hitting him at 3-4 feet (couldn't get closer) and I kept readjusting the lens to his distance.
After about 6 or 8 hits he is still flying but only a couple of feet off the ground.
(Don't know if it was from the laser or he was just tired of flying)
Humans may not be able to beat it with the blink reflex but these things seem to have a flight reflex that works. Several time he took off before I could get the beam right on him.
Finally he slipped under the door and took off.
Haven't seen him since.
Either found his way out or there is a body somewhere.

Interesting observations!
There was a thread somewhere here about how flies are able to navigate even after being hit by powerful 445 beams.
Not so sure if we got to a conclusion though.

I'll be interesting to have a insect biologist chip in.

I don't like flies either. I like to sneak up on them with my 2W IR burner. Only takes one shot. Eye safety must be respected when doing this. Make sure that you, and anyone with you has goggles, and that you don't send a beam out a window.

I made a spider explode the other day

They have compound eyes. While each "eyelette" has its own lens, the power gathered by that lens is much, much lower than the power gathered by a lens as large as the one in a human eye.

Compare a jewelers loupe with a 60" fresnel in the sun, and you'll definitely notice a difference to what happens with things you put in the focal point.

Exterminate with extreme prejudice. The 1.3w will light a match at 3-4 feet. I thought he would be sizzling and smoking.
He was quick!
Still got to clean it up even if I smash it with a fly swatter.

There was a fly on the window screen today so I threw on a pair of googles and lazed him with my 1.2W 445nm he then tried to fly off so I lazed him a few more times (3 or so) then he fell to the ground and was trying to fly but was just spinning like a top so I lazed him some more till he sizzled mmmm cooked fly .

That's one tough fly. I made a black widow Burst into flames only after cutting him in half with a 445nm laser at SELEM last year but I was 1 inch away.
