OD 3+ / OD 5+ goggles for 25-30$!!!

I Just saw that dragon lasers are selling same new safety glasses.

PLUS $18.00 shipping charges.... :-? That turns this into quite a bit less than attractive, IMO - $43.00/$48.00/$48.00
Add to that the now seemingly "standard" cheapo-looking knock offs that they are identical to on the DX website - I dunno about their quality....I look forward to your review, and tech specs with measurements hopefully to back up their OD ratings. Sorry to sound so suspicious, but I trust my eyes to known good quality goggles, and nothing less.

My guess based on the OD ratings is that the lens material is not polycarbonate. Polycarbonate lenses will block UV in the OD 5-7 range. These are reported as OD 3 or so for UV.

Here is a statement about their glasses:

A concentrated high power laser beam can immediately destroy laser safety glasses. For example a concentrated 1 watt 532nm YAG laser beam can burn a hole in the filter of laser safety glasses in seconds no matter if the OD is high or normal. So it is useless to have high optical density when laser safety glasses are struck by high power lasers.

This is a statement from our manufacturer which are all certified:

Non-reflective technology-energy is absorbed for a minimum of 10 seconds before loss of protection.

Big difference. I know that DL is working on getting their protective eyewear certified but they will need to make some changes with their manufacturer to meet the required laser specifications.

I only could buy from sites where i can pay with paypal. Acually WL does not provide paypal paying service and dragonlasers was still way cheaper than for example DX. And yes there's 18$ shipping fee but if you buy more than 1 goggle the shipping fee does not rise, so it was 70$ for me instead of Dx's 110$

P.S.: If you know German you can read the review of the goggle(used with 125 mW viper), the customer is very satisfied with it

Unfortunately, I do not read German I DO hope it works well for you - but I would never recommend the goggles I am afraid. I know there are several WL affiliates (not trying to make this a sales speech) out there, including me - that sell their goggles and accept pay-pal. At any rate, like I said - as long as YOU are happy with them, and you are careful with them - you may be okay...but I am not a gambler when it comes to my eyes...

I'm not a gambler ether, nor do I have any financial interest in these products; so that is why I only trust my eyesight to FDA/CE certified eye wear and FDA/CE certification IS PARAMOUNT to the safety of your precious eyesight; it can be damaged and your not even aware of the effects immediately.  Don't believe me? Sit down with a board certified Ophthalmologist.

The review reads :

I have the Viper 125mW laser together with the laser safety goggles purchased.
The appointment has wonderful works. Right after I had paid online, I received a confirmation that everything has worked.
Shortly afterwards I was from a very friendly staff called, showed me the expected delivery date and informed me on the dangers of laser beams pointed out. And that has made me very happy. I attended a Wednesday and ordered the laser - carefully packaged - get on next Tuesday, so really very fast. It was nice track online, where the packet straight. If I had any questions, they were until the next day friendly answered. So really great customer service!

Also, the laser is the real madness and disrupted so bright! If I from about 5m on a white wall Beam, is the point as so bright that it can not watch! The whole room is lit green, but from that point! The jet is also in daylight clearly visible. Red matches ignites the laser from a half meters in about one second! You can black balloons from 8m distance still to burst!
I am completely satisfied with my laser and would always back in dragonlasers! The laser is really a great quality and customer service is excellent! I could the whole day with my laser and always employ other things anbrutzeln.
However, I would recommend everyone always to wear safety glasses! The laser power is really huge! Strahlt man on a sunny day outside, the laser at a point about 400 metres distant house wall is still clearly visible! My old red laser pointer 1mW of here, because after 50cm flabby.

Man that was painful trying to read it, I gave up. What ever it was suppose to say/mean doesn't change any safety issues at all, no wonder governments ban these; they are only trying to protect people from themselves.

                                            FDA/CE certification is still PARAMOUNT to eye safety.

Ach, I use two glass slides that reflect 90-95% green light, they protect my eyes. But yeah, the government ban them so people dont shine them at planes, otherwise it would be in the news that people are turning up blind all over the place with retina burns.

Uhm, I don't see your point... It's some german guy ranting about how he's never handled a laser over 5mW before and he's happy with his Viper 125... There's no mention goggles, let alone him subjecting them to rigorous scientific testing using government certified testing equipment and methodology.

International standards boards have very specific tests which determine whether goggles are safe or not. If they do not meet the standards, they are not safe. No matter how much some german guy loves his laser.

Yeah translation software still creates unreadable sentences.

I can read German however. And this guy does mention recommending wearing safety eyewear, but only in the last few sentences. The rest of the review is about how great the customer service is, that he was called by an employee of DL after he placed the order who explained the 'laser dangers' to him, how fast shipping was, how bright his Viper is, how visible the beam is, etc etc. Looks like DL was quite desperate to get a review listed, and placed this Viper review in the goggles section imho.

So I'm not sure how this has anything to do with the statement one needs to 'shut up' about certified safety eyewear.

My goggles arrived today: so here is the review:

It took 3 day to ship and and the shipping was 7 day so 10 days total

The box was quite huge for two goggles: ~30cm*20cm*10cm
but that was because the 6 meters of packing foil

The box looked funny because of the 50+ stamps

The goggles were in a nice silk carrying case
The lenses size are enormous and this provides much better protection than a sport type goggle like NOVA's, however it does not look good at everyone as sport goggles do but it looks good at me.

They are high quality and very durable

I put them on and it made me a predator feeling because of the lense color but everyhing is visible nothing got dark.

Dot visiblity/OD:

I tried it with a laser that had a battery left in it for 3 years and the dot is not visible daylight, and has a 2ft range in dark(as i guess less than 0,1 mW)

i went into a dark room and turned on the laser at the white wall. WOAH! the laser's dot is hardy but could be seen through the goggle. I was amazed
Now OD test:i put fresh battery in the laser(accuretly into another, more powerfull laser) now it puts out ~5 mW and poited directly at the goggle and truely NOTHING went through it, nothing was visibly even with as low power as with the used batteries
I don't have high powered laser yet, but i already bought one from jayrob, but according to this test OD must be over 2+.
I will make better od test when i'll get my MXDL

Ah nice pictures. But no OD specified on the glasses itself so it seems. Was there any documentation that came with the goggles? And no offense, but how can you perform an "OD test" and claim the goggles are OD2+ if you do not have a power meter?
