I'm amazed at this little gem. Being used to "beamless" red lasers it rather stuns me how visible the beam is in a LIT ROOM! The difraction grating is loads of fun too. Though unless I'm aiming at a dark surface or one that is at least 10-20ft away I cant look at the dot! (again comming from being able to burn w/o goggles using a red bc of hte low visibility) It's absolutely stuning!!! I'm also amusing how I can combine the green dot and hte red dot on my Atek to make a yellow dot... just does not make sence in my head and ammuses me greatly. lol.

However, two odd things. One I was suprised how quickly my laser got warm, probably <5min and it was warm to the tough. (this is from being used to reds that have almost-no duity cucle)

Second, it DOES NOT fit properly in the WL Dragon case! Its about 1/2cm too long. you CAN force it in (if yours still is epoxied you wont have a problem keeping it in, but mine the end with the open/close threaded cap completely popped off, so the nova forces the case open in my pocket because it can BARELY touch the top of the case (if anyone wants pictures I will take some)

On a hilarious note, though, the warning sticker on the laser is an absolute joke. It warns that he laser is <500mw. Class IIIb. and is of a wavlength between 108 and 660 (IIRC... basically it's not IR/UV) I've nearly ruined it using the lens attachments, though, so it'll soon have to come off anyway.

However, amazingly for it's power, it lit a match unaided @ 2-3"! This beam puts my atek to shame! it's probably 1/2 or even 1/3 or 1/4 the diameter of the Atek! (though the atek can beat it on divergence)

Well sounds like you are just as happy with yours as the rest of us. One thing though, the recommended duty cycle is 100 seconds on...10 seconds off. I have run mine for a little longer but not much, but when I do I give it plenty of time to cool down.

BTW, what did yours spec out at???

@ gazoo: Mine was 110mw peak and "just over 100mw" consistant (testing done by senakt, from whome I bought the laser (used only for review purposes <1 hour)

@ Things: It lit a match, which takes more power than melting plastinc, but I've not tried seriously. at ~ 15' cant do it! lol (but then neither can my 200mw atek - though @ ~10' the atek can! (long focal length). I'll check and get back to you on that.

Yes, punches holes in trashbags @ 3" in <1 second. And a 100mw green on a black trashbag is still bright enought o flashblind you! I cant get over how often I'm required to use my goggles! and I'm DAMN glad I got them!!!

Oh...that laser...lol. Yeah...100mw consistent is awesome. This is one reason I love Nova and the other two reputable companies I know of...lol. They alway rate their lasers lower than they actually are.

What are the other two, if I may ask? (if for some reason you dont want to post it publicly, PM me, I want to know opinions)

Ashton...Please post pictures of the Nova and the dragon case....Showing the problem!!!!

I have myself informed people that it would fit...It it doesn't then I want to corect any faulty info I have given!!

I had gotten it from others that it did indeed fit..and took it at face value (not owning a Dragon case myself)..

Lets all get the truth out there!!!

THANKS!!!!

Oh....and as if I needed to add this...NOVA ROCKS!!!!!!
Watch that duty cycle.....don't want to go burning it up....100 seconds On...then let it cool off...and if the ambient temperature is high..I would cut back your On times even further....

The X-series is SMALL....and you have to give up cycle time for Size.

IMHO....Optotronics..Laserglow..and Nova!!!
I feel LUCKY we have these companies available to us!!!

Larry

Sorry but my Phone is refusing to transfer pics, so I had to use mt PM account. This shows the 4 pics:

http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/share.do?invite=QEYrJj2KPkkL75hkh8Nk&shareName=MMS2

The sidewats one jsut shows the case, top, and laser (see how the end came off entirely?) one shows the way it fits normally, one shows how it fits slid-in, and one shows how it fits screwed on (or rather, not screwed on, with hte X85 in there, it doesnt reach the threads.)

Remember it will still fit, it just really compresses the foam on the ends and will possibly force the end(s) out...

Well..it's hard to tell from those shots...But if your saying that it won't fit..then that is good enough for me..

THanks

Larry

I'm saying it wont fit proper. it will fit, but it puts pressure on the ends and will eventually pop them off, I suspect, or atleast force them outwards somewhat. Look at the pic with the cap on but not forced down, you can see a ring of black between the lid and the body of the case, it's about 1/2cm too long, but it will still fit, just very tight longways.

Ashton,

The pics are not too bad using slide show mode. Sorry it doesn't fit. Oh, and Larry knew the other two companies I was referring to.. 8-)

Ashton...did I read your other post correctly...does your X-105 have a Endcap lock on it???

Nova offers one as a seperate item..and it makes the OAL length of the laser longer...
I can see if the locking endcap was installed..that it wouldn't fit in a dragon case.

LArry

I have both the normal endcap AND the locking one, I did not use the locking one in the pictures, it's still a hair too long...

the bottom of the dragon tube has very soft foam to cussion the laser. if you pushed against he roam it will compress. If you compress it you can get the X-series in, the pulsar and similar lasers are shorter and do not require the ocmpression.

I hope that makes more sence.

Glad to find a clear way to explain that.

@ gazoo: I figured laserglow and was not suprised at optotronics. I'm still tempted by the Herc and Hades lasers, but I cant afford them.

Also... what exactly did you mean here:
Oh...that laser...lol.

Is there soemthing I need to know about my new toy...?
