Not crazy enough to try this one...

I had previously tried making a beam expander for my showwx pico projector and
was successful. I was able to shrink the picture and throw a further distance.

So while thinking of a setup for this, I got to thinking.. I wonder if anybody
else was playing around with similar ideas..

Funny thing about that writeup, is that it is mentioned that the same company
which produced the showwx, had the idea for retinal projection back in the 90's,
and were developing around '94.

I distinctly remember seeing an episode of 'beyond 2000' which featured the story.

Now here we stand with the technology in our palms, but im just not crazy
enough to try this :undecided:

Its an awesome thought to be able to have the image projected straight onto
your retina, and I wonder if Microvision is still planning a 'safe' release?

I wonder if that would burn the image in, similar to a voided dot from a standard injury :thinking:

Also he mentions that the projector 'has a maximum of 200mW'... I put mine in
front of my LPM while projecting bright white images, though I only saw 50mW
or so.

Noticed as well, there is no mention of his testing of it. Perhaps he is awaiting
some comments on the bottom of that page. Some that report back findings from
others who took on the same project. :scared:

Even if the real output is just 50 mW i'd rather not shoot that straight into my eye

Waiting for others to make that mistake could be a viable research strategy, at least if you fancy seeing what you are doing in the future

With as much as we stress the hazards of taking a direct hit from a beam, this just seems so wrong. What is the benefit of beaming an image directly through your pupil, rather than viewing a reflected image from some sort of screen?

Well for starters, it would make one hell of a set of VR goggles.. Your entire
range of vision covered. I dont know how they could make a better display
unless the feed plugged straight into your brain :tinfoil:

Watching a movie or playing a game would be like a controlled hallucination...

I downloaded a Stephen King folder with all the oldies.. Watched
Lawnmower Man a couple of weeks ago.. Funny what used to pass
for high tech. Was kinda like watching war games in the mid 90's

War games. Another of my old favorites. I can't remember what film it was in but they recently brought back the W.O.P.R. I will have to find it.

That was part 2.. No Mathew broderick, but Dr. Falken's character did appear.
One of those movies that just didnt need a sequel.

Awesome thing with the internet, is every movie I ever liked is on my monster hard drive :san:

The 2009 star trek was well done, and my favorite to watch on the showwx projector.
Something crazy watching lasers being fired when in fact, its actual laser :bday:

They did do a really good job on the latest star trek. I have enjoyed watching it a few times.

I don't even have cable anymore or even bother watching broadcast TV. Before this hobby I used to set up home theater systems with XBMC PC's. Way back in the day I used to mod and sell Xbox counsels with XBMC on them for home media streamers. I remember how excited I was when XBMP first came out and I started using it.

It was a huge step up to the crappy Microsoft alternative that would not play anything other than their approved containers/codecs. Then the two projects merged to create the XBMC project and it is all history after that. It is amazing how the project has progressed over the years.

I only watch TV for local news, but still have cable for my internet connection..
Mainly I download documentaries, and movies.. I recently started a collection
of old TV shows.. sitcoms from the 90's etc.

Just dont get much time to watch them.
