As you can see, i am new here and wants to learn about lasers. :-[ I have a list of questions after reading a bunch of threads .
The questions are:

What are DPSS.
Whats laser pumping, how does it work.
Whats the most powerful output laser color for lasers (IR?)
How powerful are IR lasers compared to others sayy....... blurays?
Why dont people use pwm for laser drivers? They are more efficent and better controlled and no heat.....

Quick overview:
DPSS is an acronym for Diode Pumped Solid State lasers.
Laser pumping is basically the DPSS process, where an infrared laser diode is "pumped" through a series of crystals that convert the light into a different wavelength.
The most powerful lasers for the cheapest price would definitely be Infrared, or specifically CO2 lasers.
IR lasers are much cheaper than Blu-Ray ones, but Blu-Ray will burn objects much faster.

Say a one watt IR laser, what power would that equal to in a blu ray laser?

1 watt 473nm would be 3% of the 1 watt, sooooo 10mw.

No, I don't think he means in DPSS efficiency terms. Generally 473nm DPSS ranges from 1-3% efficiency.

I think he's talking about overall power levels.

Woop 2001 posts !

Saw something on ebay:
100W QCW, High Power Laser Diode Bar, 808nm, for DPSS
(sry no link cuz it wont allow me to post links for people under 10 posts)
What is this thing used for?
